Better Living Through Chemistry
Welcome to Chemistry! Chemistry is all around you and a part of you. Every item you see and touch - the desk, chair, floor, book, your classmate next to you, are all composed of matter.
Chemistry is known as the central science because it is the basis for all science knowledge. It is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine, separate, or interact with energy. Many people think of chemists as white-coated scientists mixing strange liquids in a laboratory, but the truth is we are all chemists. Chemistry is not only for those who plan to pursue a career in the sciences, medicine, or engineering. Chemistry is used in every field of endeavor.
Chemistry is not at all difficult to master but will require some of your time and concentration. The core concepts of chemistry build upon one another, so pay particularly careful attention at the beginning of the quarter. If you can master the early material, the later chapters will be much easier.
Our class is a team, and we will not be successful unless every one of us makes it successfully across the goal line. We will work hard and enjoy our collective success together.
